About Us

Why

We can make the world more beautiful.

We can mitigate (or even reverse!) climate change and ecological decline. We all have a role to play and can turn any outdoor space we love into a delicious oasis. Converting lawns into biodiversity hot spots that filter water, store carbon and the soil, and produce delicious, nutritious treats for our families and communities is a win-win-win. You can be part of the climate solution while making your home or business more beautiful and delicious!

Planting, tending, and harvesting edible and perennial crops is good for us all, and it’s good for the earth. And it’s just plain fun.

Lawns are bad for the environment, and there are roughly 40 million acres of them in the contiguous USA. Monocultures in farming and poor land use planning contribute to compounding ecological decline. But we make choices daily in how we tend land,  and together we can shift these trends.

Imagine the transformative potential if we convert our lawns, farms, gardens, parks, median strips, golf courses, and playgrounds into thriving ecosystems by planting diverse, well-suited perennials that can heal the land, support essential insect and animal life, and feed our communities.

We can sequester carbon, provide habitat to increase biodiversity, and slow, spread, and sink clean water into the ground before it’s lost in a storm drains.

We can create abundant, delicious food for ourselves and our neighbors, increasing community food security by planting edible and perennial crops.

We can have yards and gardens that are easier to manage and don’t rely on fossil fuels to maintain, creating net-zero (or better!) homesteads.

We can teach our children how to grow and tend plants. We can wonder with them at the connective beauty of nature as we notice pollinators, wild animals, birds, (and friendly, excited neighbors!) as our gardens emerge.

We can plant beauty now for a thriving future.
